| Popup Blockers and the Constitution
Timeline
If you use a Popup Blocker (or recently upgraded your Windows
XP software with Service Pack 2), you may find that the Constitution
Timeline fails to load. That's because the Timeline opens its own
window and most browsers interpret this as an unwanted Popup advertisement.
What Is a Popup Blocker?
Since the Internet was discovered by aggressive marketers of all
sorts of products, it has been infested with many different types
of invasive advertising gimmicks. One of the most common of
these is the Popup Ad. Popup Ads exploit a well-meaning feature
of Internet Browsers that allow them to spontaneously create
new windows for related content, while keeping the existing page
loaded in the existing browser window. We use a Popup window
to display our Constitution Timeline as, essentially, a separate
program; allowing you to work back and forth between it and the
rest of the Justice Learning website.
Setting various Popup Blockers
Popup Blockers are available from several different sources.
It's even possible to have more than one Popup Blocker installed
and
active on your computer at the same time. Here's how to adjust the
most popular:
| Microsoft's Popup Blocker (Internet Explorer and XP Service
Pack 2) |
| 1. |
Open Internet Explorer |
| 2. |
On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then
click Pop-up Blocker Settings. |
| 3. |
You can set the level of Popup protection (or turn
it off completely) using the drop-down box at the bottom
of the panel.
|
| 4. |
If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific Web
site (such as Justice Learning), type the address (or URL)
of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box, and
then
click
Add. |
